Aligning Your Trainings with the New CBK: Timeline and Next Steps

In case you missed it, last week we discussed the major changes to the CBK — including new competency areas and what’s coming in 2026. You can read that post here.

For trainers and professional development providers, the revised CBK is a powerful tool to:

  • Design training sessions aligned with updated core competencies
  • Inform course goals and learning objectives
  • Ensure your professional development offerings meet updated state standards
  • Support educators pursuing credentials and continuing education

Key Timeline for Implementation:

  • April 2025: Early previews of the revised CBK were available at the NYAEYC Conference.
  • Now: You can download the revised CBK here.
  • June–July 2025: NYWFC is offering information sessions:
  • July–August 2025: The new CBK will be available in Aspire for trainers.
  • September–December 2025: Course review and alignment period in Aspire continues.
  • December 31, 2025: Old CBK areas in Aspire will expire.
  • January 2026: New CBK officially goes into effect, along with complementary tools and resources.

By aligning your training with the revised CBK now, you’ll stay ahead and fully support the evolving professional development landscape in New York.

Coming up next week: We’ll wrap up this series with a roundup that links back to each post so you can access everything in one place.
